The congress spaces of the Tecnocampus such as the Auditorium, Foyer and the Burriac and Laia Room became last week the focus of health and safety in sport with the celebration of the Global Player Health and Safety Summit. This international benchmark event, organised by the World Players Association, brought together 120 experts and representatives of sports associations from around the world to discuss the challenges and best practices in the protection of professional athletes.

A programme focusing on the well-being and safety of athletes

On 30 January, presentations and round tables were held on key issues such as:

  • Managing athletes’ workload to ensure optimal and sustainable performance.
  • Mental health in professional sport and its importance in the sporting career.
  • Gender perspective in athlete safety, addressing the specific needs of each group.
  • Best practices in occupational safety, sharing experiences from different countries and disciplines.

In addition, the event included specialised sessions on emerging challenges, such as the impact of abuse in the digital environment, the effects of environmental conditions on sports performance and the development of new safety protocols.

A meeting point for international experts and institutions

The Global Player Health and Safety Summit was attended by prestigious international institutions, such as the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) and the world professional footballers’ union FIFPRO, as well as representatives from other sports sectors.

This event not only reinforced the World Players Association’s commitment to ensuring a safe and sustainable sporting environment, but also consolidated the TecnoCampus Congress Centre as a benchmark for international congresses, attracting initiatives of great global impact and reaffirming its role as a strategic venue for high-level events, driving knowledge and innovation in key sectors such as sport, health and safety at work.
