On Monday, May 5, the Foyer of the TecnoCampus Conference Center hosted the second edition of the Valors Mataró Europa Forum, an initiative that is becoming established as a space for reflection and debate on today’s major social, political, and cultural challenges, especially from the perspective of cities like Mataró.

The event, promoted by Mataró City Council, Valors magazine, and TecnoCampus, brought together nearly a hundred attendees and focused on artificial intelligence, due to the revolution it represents in areas such as production, education, and healthcare. This was discussed within a European context marked by profound transformations: energy crises, climate challenges, geopolitical tensions, shifting migration flows, and the need to redefine democratic values.

The event was hosted by journalist Carles Prats and featured an opening keynote by José María Lassalle, writer and expert in digital ethics, titled ‘Challenges and Limits of Artificial Intelligence.’ Lassalle emphasized the need to empower human beings in the face of new technological paradigms and warned about the risks of developing AI disconnected from humanist values.

Next, a round table was held with the participation of:

  • Albert Sabater, Director of the Ethics in Artificial Intelligence Observatory of Catalonia
  • Quelic Berga, Professor at the UOC
  • Elisa Sayrol, Director of the TecnoCampus University Center

The event concluded with the institutional closing by the Honorable Mr. David Bote, Mayor of Mataró, who highlighted the importance of creating spaces for debate at the local level with a European outlook.

With this second edition, the Valors Mataró Europa Forum reaffirms the commitment of Mataró, TecnoCampus, and Valors magazine to take part in the deeper debates shaping European reality, offering a unique perspective—rooted in the local context but open to the world.
