On May 20 and 21, the eighth edition of RecuWaste was held at the TecnoCampus Conference Center, <\/strong>the leading international event in Catalonia on waste management, energy transition, and the circular economy. Organized by the Maresme Waste Consortium, the event brought together more than 700 attendees,<\/strong> including industry professionals, institutional representatives, companies, and research centers. <\/p>\n

Over the course of two days, the various spaces of the TecnoCampus \u2013the Auditorium<\/a>, the Burriac and Laia Arquera Halls<\/a>, the Foyer,<\/a> and the outdoor area\u2013<\/strong> hosted a program of activities that included keynote speeches, round tables, exhibitions, and networking spaces. Outside, there was also an exhibition of innovative machinery <\/strong>applied to public services. <\/p>\n

The official opening was led by David Bote<\/strong>, Mayor of Matar\u00f3 and President of the Consortium, and Jordi Sargatal<\/strong>, Secretary for Ecological Transition of the Generalitat. Environmental journalist Maria Josep Pic\u00f3<\/strong> hosted the congress and opened the program with a dialogue on sustainability, degrowth, and social well-being, featuring renowned speakers such as Heike Freire and Carlos Taibo.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Throughout the two days, key topics were addressed, including: the decarbonization of industry, new models of selective waste collection, industrial symbiosis, the evolution of chemical and mechanical recycling, and the challenges of textile waste and its traceability.<\/p>\n

There was also reflection on the impact of technology and digitalization<\/strong> in waste management, with dedicated spaces for robotics, smart reading systems, and satellite monitoring.<\/p>\n

The second day of the congress focused on innovation and upcoming regulatory changes,<\/strong> featuring the presentation of the finalist projects for the \u201cAlfonso Ma\u00edllo\u201d award, a round table on the SDDR system, and an institutional closing session with representatives from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition, the Catalan Waste Agency, and the Maresme Waste Consortium.<\/p>\n

As a closing activity, a technical visit was held at the Maresme Integrated Waste Recovery Center,<\/strong> where attendees had the opportunity to explore the center\u2019s educational and outreach facilities.<\/p>\n
